Porter is a rural Oxford County town of around 1,600 residents, incorporated in 1807, sitting along the Ossipee River at the New Hampshire border. Its main village, Kezar Falls, straddles the river between Porter and neighboring Parsonsfield. The 1876 Parsonsfield-Porter covered bridge -- a 152-foot two-span structure still crossing the Ossipee on Route 160 -- is one of the more photographed landmarks in the region. Bald Ledge offers a short hike with open views of the surrounding lakes and forest. Cornish and Hiram are just minutes away, and North Conway is under 30 miles west. For buyers looking for genuine rural character at the lower end of the Oxford County price range, Porter consistently offers value.
